Our professional Diploma level course on Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) is a powerful therapy initially designed by Marsha Linehan in 1993 to help treat borderline personality disorder. It has been proven an ever-evolving therapy which enables the treatment of a large number of mental and emotional health problems helping those who feel overwhelmed in life.
Research indicates that treatment with DBT helps to strengthen an individual's ability to handle any stress or traumas that present themselves without their acting in a destructive manner or losing control. This is important because we often revert to our ‘typical behaviours’ during times of stress. These behaviours may be unhealthy and damaging if they are extreme or are made with faulty perceptions.
A great many people struggle to cope with their emotions. Often, emotions can be deeply buried within and can rise to the surface fuelling an angry or irrational response. Those emotions which are born from trauma or are painful are often the most difficult to diffuse and alter. At times, it can take little to trigger an emotive reaction especially if emotions are already heightened. Think of it as emotions being turned to their maximum intensity. The feelings can be so strong that clients feel they cannot cope with them.
